JAMMU, Aug 29: Various organizations and Associations celebrated National Spots Day with sports spirit, fervour and enthusiasm, here today.
Hockey coaches and players celebrated National Sports Day, the birthday of Hockey Wizard, late Major Dhyan Chand with fervour at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here today.
BSF Hockey team members also joined the celebration on this occasion.
To pay tributes to legendary Dhyan Chand, his picture was garlanded by a large gathering of players and coaches and a light refreshment was served among the budding hockey players on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were SP Singh, Manager KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium and hockey coaches Dalbir Mehta and Jagjeet Singh.
Tawi Trekkers J&K, the pioneer trekking club celebrated the National Sports Day with great fanfare among its sport climbers at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing wall in Sprawling Buds School complex, here today.
Ram Khajuria, Secretary Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone Committee, who is the founder member of Tawi Trekkers, while addressing the budding sport climbers, highlighted the importance of this day.
He apprised the climbers that the day is celebrated in the memory of legendry hockey player Major Dhayan Chand who was born today. He applauded the valuable contribution of Padma Bhushan  Major Dhayan Chand in the field of hockey and said that the nation is proud of  “Wizard of Hockey” who was the world’s greatest ever hockey player.
He said, the best tribute to the hockey icon would be to follow his footprints and his qualities of discipline and dedication, he added.
On this occasion two sport climbers Ambreen Fatima and Vansh Gupta were also honoured as the most disciplined climbers.
National Sports Day was celebrated at the Sports training centre of the Sports Authority of India at MA Stadium today.
All the inmates assembled to pay rich tributes to the first international hero of the Indian sports, Major Dhian Chand and sang national anthem to reiterate their resolve to excel in the Sports field for the honour of their country.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, Jt. Secretary J&K State Sports Council and Krupali Patel Singh, Arjuna Awardee and member Sports Council were the distinguished guests on the occasion. Sharma while paying rich tributes to Dhian Chand, emphasized the need to celebrate the day with enthusiasm and fervour. He appreciated the inmates and coaches of the STC for their efforts and assured all support to the Centre from Sports council. He also distributed playing kit among the inmates.
A Basketball match among the SAI trainees was organized which was witnessed by an audience comprising parents, coaches and guests. Prominent among those present on the occasion included VK Sharma, Incharge STC Jammu, Shaktish Chopra, president J&K SSC coaches association, Satish Gupta, secretary and all SAI coaches.
