JAMMU, Apr 1: Nanak Nagar Club stunned Young Star Hockey Club, Simble Camp in the final and lifted the title trophy of the Jammu District Senior Hockey Championship, being organized by Hockey J&K at KK Hakku Astro Turff Stadium, here today.
During the first half of the match, sweating Satwant Singh of Young Star Club netted the first goal in the 12th minute, which was equalized by enthusiastic Joginder Singh of Nanak Nagar Club in the 20th minute.
The players of both the teams tried their level best to raise the lead, but failed and the first half ended with 1-1 goal each.
In the second half, players of Nanak Nagar Club and Young Star Club were seen running in cordial way, but Mandeep Singh of Nanak Nagar Club got an opportunity and he scored the goal in the 38th minute and raised the scorecard.
Janak Singh of Nanak Nagar Club netted the goal in the 53rd minute and brought the opponent team under extreme pressure by raising the scoreboard to 3-1 goals.
However, in the very next minute, Rajinder Singh of Young Star Club netted the goal and brought some respite for the team mates by bringing down the rising scorecard to 3-2 goals.
In the last five minutes of the second half, Nanak Nagar Club became the master of the game as they got a benefit of a self goal.
During the match, the players of both the teams sweated a lot and played well, but enthusiastic Nanak Nagar players claimed the title by 4-2 goals.
In the match, Nanak Nagar Club for three penalty corners, which they failed to convert into the goal, while, Young Star Club also got three penalty corner opportunities and succeeded in converting the same into goal just once.
The match was officiated by Iqbal Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Dilbir Mehta and GS Bakshi.
On the occasion, Ajit Kumar Sahu, District Development Commissioner (DDC) was the chief guest, who distributed prizes among the winners and the runner-up teams in presence of Romal Singh, general secretary, Hockey J&K, VK Kohli, CEO, Hockey J&K, Rajinder Singh, treasurer, Jagjit Singh, Gurmeet Kour, SHO, Gandhi Nagar police station, Harcharan Singh and large number of sports lovers.
