Musheer Khan breaks Tendulkar’s record

MUMBAI, Mar 12: Mumbai’s young batsman Musheer Khan broke legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record during the ongoing Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha at the Wankhede Stadium here today.
Musheer, who is the younger brother of Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, scored a determined 136, making him the youngest Mumbaikar to achieve this feat in a Ranji final.
Tendulkar, on the other hand, had set the previous record when scored a century at the age of 21 during the 1994-95 Ranji Trophy final against Punjab.
Musheer achieved this milestone at the age of 19 years and 14 days, scoring his century after facing 255 balls. Interestingly, Tendulkar himself was present at the venue to witness the Mumbaikar’s landmark on Day 3 of the match.
Musheer’s achievement comes after a promising start to the year, where he represented India in the ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa, contributing significantly to his team’s journey to the final. He scored 360 runs in the tournament, the second most after his captain Uday Saharan who finished with 397 runs. (PTI)
The young Turk had notched up his maiden First-Class century in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal clash against Baroda, where he converted it into a double-ton, aggregating 203 off 357 balls as Mumbai were bowled out for 384.
The milestone adds to the cricketing legacy of the Khan family, with Musheer’s elder brother Sarfaraz recently making his debut for Team India and performing impressively. He had peeled off sparkling half-centuries against England in the fourth and fifth Test.
Mumbai, with their sights set on a record-extending 42nd Ranji Trophy title, continues to dominate the ongoing final match against Vidarbha.
