UDHAMPUR, May 30: Yasha Mudgal, District Development Commissioner Udhampur declared the State Level Inter-District Under-14 Boys Cricket Tournament open in an impressive and well attended function at Subash Sports Stadium, here today.
The tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the patronage of Naveen Agarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K and under the supervision of Sukhdev Singh, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Udhampur.
278 boys drawn from 19 Districts of the State are participating in the Tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC Udhampur, who was the chief guest on the occasion stressed upon the participants to take part in sports and games with true spirit and said that the important thing is not to win, but to take part with a zeal zest and sporting spirit.
In the inaugural match played today, Bandipora defeated Samba by 5 wickets in an easy contest. Samba scored 91 runs in 15 overs, while in reply, Bandipora scored 95/5 in overs with Kaisar scoring 44 not out in 36 balls, while in another match Kulgam thrashed Budgam by 9 wickets. Budgam scored 99 runs in 15 overs, with Sahil scoring 37 runs, while in reply, Kulgam scored 100/1 in 14 overs with Danish scoring 50 runs in 33 balls.
In another match, Ganderbal prevailed over Kathua by 8 wickets in an easy contest. Batting first, Kathua scored 70 runs, while Ganderbal scored 73 in 10.2 overs by losing 2 wickets to win the match by 8 wickets.
The matches were officiated by Vinod Khajuria, Swarandeep Singh, Raman Kumar Gupta, Sunil Dutt Khajuria, Parminder Manhas, Raj Kumar, Ajay Koul, Raj Kumar Gupta, Parshotam Kumar, Pushp Kumar,Rakesh Khajuria and Rajesh Sharma.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Vikram Singh Salathia, Chairman Devika Co-operative Bank Udhampur, Ram Lal Badyal, ZPEO Kulwanta, Usha Kumari ZPEO Chenani, Pawan Kumar, Santosh Kumari, Poonam Sharma, Deepika Manhas, Sushma Rani, Som Dev Khajuria, Mulkh Raj, Naveen Sharma, Sanjay Sharma and Sanjeev Kumar.
