JAMMU, Aug 1: In order to adequately prepare the four State climbers who have been selected for the selection camp for Indian team for the Asian Youth Championship, Mountaineering Association of J&K is sparing no efforts to train them fully and thus facilitate their selection in the National team.
Presently, all the four climbers are attending a special 11 days intensive coaching camp at Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab under the guidance of their coach Shashi Kant, while Aman Dogra, the national speed climbing champion is concentrating on speed, his colleague in the boys’ category Mrityunjay Sharma is focusing on lead climbing. Shivani Charak, the national speed climbing champion and Asma Gul, a 12-year-old talented climber are sharpening their skills in lead and speed climbing as well as bouldering. The camp sponsored by J&K State Sports Council will conclude on August 4.
Earlier, Mountaineering Association of J&K had deputed these climbers along with their coach to Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi for a 10 days advance training and rigorous practice in order to give them the necessary exposure of climbing on the international standard climbing infrastructure to enable them to perform to their full potential in the selection camp.
Since selection trials will be conducted at the 50ft high international standard lead climbing wall and speed climbing wall with star holds and climbing gym in IMF Complex, the infra structure which we lack in J&K, the Association will again depute its climbers to IMF, New Delhi for a 10 days coaching session under national coaches from August 6 to 15 just before the selection camp to be held from August 17 to 22.
The Association is hopeful that at least two of its sport climbers will find a place in the national team for the Asian Youth Championship to be held at Tehran (Iran) from September 27 to October 1.
