JAMMU, July 26: A mini marathon run was organised by different Runner Clubs as well as social organisations to celebrate Kargil victory in cooperation with the Indian Army, here today.
The mini marathon run was started from the Balidan Stambh of Jammu and culminated at the starting point after covering 10 kilometres distance by holding National Flags and shouting slogans in favour of the Indian Army.
The run was conducted with technical professional inputs from Mukesh from First Fighters Group, wherein runners from Fist Fighters Club, Jammu Hills Sports Club, EcoCyclature Foundation and Mata Vaishno Devi Runner Group took part in the run, while Civil Society Organization (CSO), National Corruption Control & Human Welfare Organization (NCCHWO) helped to organise the event.
The highlight of the event was the presence of five battle casualties in the function, Col Virender Kumar Sahi, VrC, Col Sham Lal, H/Capt Shamsher Singh, Hav Harbans Lal and Hav Bachan Singh gave chilling accounts of their experiences. Speaking on the occasion, Brig Harcharan Singh, VSM, from NCCHWO informed about the tremendous response of all Runner Groups and various NGOs.
After the culmination of an early morning marathon run, the senior Army Officials from Tiger Division felicitated the War Hero Veterans. The ‘Certificates of Appreciation’ were also presented to Runners Clubs and other sponsoring organizations.
In the event, a special tribute was paid to marathon runner, late Pranab Mahajan, who had died during a Marathon Run. Nearly 15 young talented runners were presented with shoes, so that they could keep up the passion of running on the occasion.
Brig Harcharan said that shoes were presented by one of the runners to motivate the youth to pursue the healthy passion of running, which would keep them away from drug menace and direct their energies towards positivity.
Active participants and sponsors of the event were from Inner Wheel Club Jammu Tawi, IWC Jammu, IWC New Gen, Jain Mahila Mandal, SS Jain Sabha (Talab Tillo), Rotary Club, Jammu Tawi, Jain Youth Sangh, Jammu, while Hargun and Dr Satinder Nijjar, District Chairman IWC made personal contributions for the noble event.
Col Virender Kumar Sahi (VrC) introduced the event and vote of thanks was presented by Mukesh from First Fighter Club.
