Srinagar, Apr 19: Police today arrested a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant and a cop for attempt to abduct a girl in Sopore town of Baramulla district while locals tried to set ablaze the house of the militant.
Superintendent of Police, Sopore, Abdul Qayoom, told Excelsior that a militant Imran Ahmad Dar alias Jabroo of Sopore, a police constable, Mudassir Ahmad, along with two other men tried to abduct a girl in Nowpora area of Sopore at gunpoint early in the morning today.
“Police, Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed to the spot after Police received information about gun men entering Ghulam Mohidin War’s house at Nowpora Kalan in Sopore to abduct her daughter. We caught hold of one of the abductors identified as Mudassir Ahmad from the spot while rest of them escaped,” Qayoom said.
The SP said Mudassir, who is a police constable, revealed that he, Jabroo and two others barged into the house of the girl to abduct her. “Jabroo is a former militant who was released last year in September after his involvement in militant activity and Mudassir Ahmad son of Mubarak Ahmad is a police man”, he said.
“We recovered an AK-47 and ammunition from Jabroo after we raided his house to arrest him,” Qayoom said, adding the investigations have been started in the case.
The SP said after the incident angry relatives of the girl attempted to set ablaze the house of Jabroo, but police reached the spot and pacified the situation. “One tractor parked in the compound of his house was, however, damaged”, he added.
Qayoom said that other two accomplices managed their escape while taking advantage of the darkness and are still absconding and their search is going on.
“The identity of the absconding persons has been established. Sopore police have registered a case FIR number 57/2014 under Section 7/25 Indian Act and investigation has been set into motion”, the SP said.
Qayoon said that Jabroo was earlier arrested along with Lashkar-e-Toiba Divisional Commander Fahadullah last year and was release on bail last year.
