JAMMU, Nov 22: An Inter-College Badminton Championship was organized by the Sports Unit of MIER College of Education, here.
Dr Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College, Dr Mool Raj Sharma, HoD PG and Dr Rohnika Sharma, HoD UG Department along with the faculty and the students witnessed the sports event and encouraged the participants.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER, who while speaking on the occasion encouraged the students by her motivating words.
She said that proficiency in co-curricular activities including sports is an integral part of becoming an effective teacher and moreover, sports and games help in the all-round development of a child.
The students along with their coaches from six colleges namely MIER College of Education, Dogra College of Education, Shivalik College of Education, Chenab College of Education, Dogra Law College and Dogra Degree College participated with great sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
Singles and doubles badminton matches for boys and girls were organized. Mr Ravi from MIER College of Education, Alok Yadav from Dogra College and Anutham from Dogra Law College bagged first, second and third position in boy’s singles badminton matches on the other hand Lakshyadeep and Nishat from Dogra Degree College, Kirtivam and Ansh from Dogra Law College and Virender and Vijay from MIER College of Education clinched first, second and third prize in boy’s doubles matches.
In girls singles, Aditideep Singh from Dogra Law College, Bharti Adgotra from Dogra College of Education and Ritika from MIER College of Education won first, second and third position whereas Taniya and Priya from Dogra College of Education, Taniya and Janvi from Dogra Law College and Deepi Jamwal and Sonal Gupta from MIER College of Education were first, second and third in girls double match. Certificates were given to all participants
The programme was organized by Kuldeep Singh, incharge Games and Sports Unit under the active guidance and supervision of Usha Chunni, Sports Officer MIER along with the PTI’s Nisha, Deepak, Imran and Danish.
