BANGKOK, July 4:
Already assured of a knock-out berth, India’s Aditya Mehta ended his league engagements on a losing note while seven-time world champion Pankaj Advani also suffered a 3-5 loss to England’s Shaun Murphy in his fourth game in the SangSom 6-Red World Snooker Championship here.
India’s number one snooker player, Mehta went down fighting to England’s Peter Ebdon 4-5 in Group ‘C’.
He has won three out of the five games, the same as Ireland’s Ken Doherty, to qualify for the knockout phase.
Mehta had defeated Thailand’s T Thiraponpaiboon, Li Hang of China and Doherty.
“It’s a great feeling to have come through and reach the last 32 stage. I am absolutely enjoying the 6–Red format of the game and I believe that such tournaments have many more bright moments. The charm of the format is that it is faster and keeps one on the toes,” Mehta said.
“Tomorrow’s match will decide the last 16 as the knockout stage begins. I am determined to give my best shot,” he added.(PTI)
