MBS Club, Guru Nanak Nagar Club crush rivals, register berths in semis

JAMMU, Jan 15: MBS Hockey Club and Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club crushed rivals in their respective quarterfinal matches and registered berths in the semifinal stage of the ongoing 2nd Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament, being organized by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation under the aegis of Hockey J&K at KK Hakku Stadium here today.
Before the start of the first match of the day, the spectators including sports lovers were seen approaching the ground to cheer up for their favourite teams.
In the first match, Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club defeated Hiranagar Hockey Club by straight two goals to zero.
In the first half, players of both the teams displayed exemplary talent and restricted each other to raise the scoreboard.
The players of both Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club and Hiranagar Club could not raise the scoreboard and the first half ended with no goal.
The second half of the match also remained hard, tough and high voltage as the players of both the teams strived hard and raided on each others goal side, but could not raise the scorecard till the last five minutes of the second half.
However, Simranjit Singh of Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club after finding a gap scored the first goal of the match in the 57th minute and brought the opponent Hiranagar Hockey Club under pressure.
As the players of Hiranagar Club were trying to equalize the scorecard, Mandeep of Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club with his excellent sense of playing scored the goal in the 59th minute of the game.
The Hiranagar Club players failed to level the scoreboard and the match was won by Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club, which qualified for the semis of the tournament.
In the second match, MBS Hockey Club defeated Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hockey Club by straight four goals to Nil and entered into the semifinal of the tournament.
The players of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hockey Club were looking passionate and energetic as they had to face the experienced MBS Hockey Club as rivals during the match.
The first goal of the match was scored by Gaganpreet Singh of MBS Hockey Club in the 6th minute of the first half, whereas second goal was scored by Prabhat Singh in the 11th minute.
The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hockey Club players sweated well to balance the scoreboard, but failed and the first half ended with 2-0 lead over them.
Being experienced, MBS Hockey Club team-mates appreciated the efforts of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hockey Club players during 5-minutes break to boost their morale, which reflected true sportsmanship among the players on the ground.
In the second half, the players of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hockey Club surprised the spectators by restricting the opponent team to score the goal for around 20 minutes.
Ramandeep Singh of MBS Hockey Club smashed the goal in the 50th minute, which shattered the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hockey Club of winning the match as the lead on them reached 3-0, which they were finding difficult to equalize.
In 59th minute Gurkirat Singh of MBS Hockey Club netted another goal and raised the scorecard by 4-0 goals.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh Club players strived hard, but their forwards could not succeed to score even a single goal till the final whistle by the umpire which paved way for MBS Hockey Club to win the match by 4-0 goals and qualify for the semis of the Tournament.
The matches were officiated by Jagjit Singh, Dalvir Singh, Joginder Singh and GS Bakshi.
Earlier, Pragya Gandotra, a noted emerging entrepreneur interacted with the players and wished them luck. He also promised for promotion of the hockey in J&K by engaging business community. Gandotra also sought Government’s attention for the promotion of the game.
Among others present were Sant Waryam Singh, leader, Namdhari Sangat Jammu, Pinku Goswami, Veteran Hockey player of State, Tirlok Singh, Davinder Bakshi and sports lovers.
In tomorrow’s quarterfinal matches, Sittu Hockey Club will lock horns with Zorawar Hockey Club and Ajit Club will take on Young Star Hockey Club, Simbal Camp.
