Martial Art Workshop commences at Shrine Board’s Sports Complex

KATRA, Oct 10: A 3-day Martial Art-cum-Self Defence Workshop for girls organised by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at its Sports Complex got underway here today.
In all, 60 girl students from various educational institutions of Katra and the surrounding areas, including 30 students of SMVD College of Nursing, Kakryal are participating in the Workshop.
During the Workshop, the participants will be imparted training in self-defence, martial arts for personal safety, Judo, defensive techniques, Yoga, etc. by the expert resource persons, including Bhanu Pratap Singh, International Wushu Player. Besides practical sessions, classroom lectures and group discussions will also be held during the workshop.
Dr Arvind Karwani, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, inaugurated the Workshop in an impressive function.
He impressed upon the participants to draw maximum benefit from the Workshop, as such activities along with academics play a pivotal role in holistic personality development of an individual.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB, spoke on aims and objectives of the Workshop.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Dr Shailla Cannie, Principal, SMVD College of Nursing, Kakryal, resource persons, coaches and heads and teachers of various educational institutions.
