Marathon organised to eradicate drugs

UDHAMPUR, May 26: Former MLA and National Panthers Party (NPP) president, Balwant Singh Mankotia organised Marathon against drug abuse which commenced from Garhi in the wee hours and concluded at Chopra Shop, here.
The Marathon in which around 300 youth participated was organised by NGO Dogra Kranti Dal.
Speaking on the occasion, Mankotia said that making Udhampur drug free is their prime goal and for doing so they are working at grass-root level by organising such Marathons and other allied sports activities.
Mankotia while addressing youth expressed his anxiety over the spread of ‘Chitta’ named drug at such a fast rate during the past three years due to which many of the youngsters have lost their lives in Udhampur.
He said that it is the conspiracy of neighbouring country to make our youth drug addict and appealed all the political and non political parties to come together to make city drug free. He demanded strict action against drug peddlers.
Later Mankotia also felicitated first three winners with cash prize and mementos.
Tarun Singh won gold and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5100, the silver went to Kuldeep Kumar, who was presented a cash prize of Rs 3100, while the bronze was bagged by Sachin Sharma and Sanjay Kumar, who were awarded with a cash prize of 2100 each.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion were Sarpanch Shamsher Singh, Sarpanch Sunil Manohar, Anil Kumar, Kalu Sethi, Satnam Singh, Rajkumar, Adv Mahadeep Singh, Govind Singh, Ashwani Sharma and Firdous Ahmed.
