JAMMU, Feb 28: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the second edition of the Sikh Cricket Premier League (SCPL) at the Cricket Ground of the University of Jammu, asserting that the youth of the country embody limitless possibilities and can script history if provided with the right opportunities, robust platforms and meaningful mentorship.
Addressing the gathering, the LG said the league is playing a vital role in sculpting a disciplined and multifaceted young generation by instilling qualities such as leadership, teamwork, patience and self-belief. He said by organizing the tournament, All J&K Sikh Coordination Committee and Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club Jammu are promoting brotherhood and social harmony through sports.
Sinha highlighted the inclusive character of the league, noting that each team has been structured to include players from other communities as well, thereby strengthening unity and mutual understanding among youth. The LG aid sports should not be seen merely as a pastime but as a platform for building character and life values.
Highlighting the transformation in the sports sector, Sinha said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed unprecedented development in sports infrastructure through substantial assistance under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme. He also referred to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent announcement of Rs 200 crore for sports development in the Union Territory with support from BCCI, FIFA and other sports bodies.
MLA Bahu Vikram Randhawa, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti, Director Anti-Corruption Bureau Shakti Pathak, chairman All J&K Sikh Coordination Committee Ajit Singh, heads of various Sikh organizations, prominent citizens, players, coaches and a large number of youth were present on the occasion.
