Leander Paes wins doubles title in Italian Challenger

CHANDIGARH, July 30:  Indian star player Leander Paes, associating with Andre Begemann of Germany, seeded third, clinched the doubles final as they toppled the top seeded duo of Andrej Martin of Slovakia and Hans Podlipnik-Castillo of Chile 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the ? 85,000 Thindown Challenger in Biella (Italy) today.
The title-clash continued for one hour and 14 minutes. Paes-Begemann, who fired five aces and committed two double faults saved all the four break points which came their way. The Indo-German pair won 78 per cent of total service points (40/51).
Martin-Poplipnik-Castillo served one ace and committed four double faults. They save two of the four break points. They won 67 per cent of service points (36/53). Paes-Begemann earned 110 points and cash prize of ?5260, Paes will be partnering Rohan Bopanna in the 2016 Rio Olympics. (UNI)
