GULMARG, Mar 12: The team of Ladakh showed good performance in Khelo India Winter Games held at Gulmarg.
“Ladakh team has participated in different events in Khelo india Winter Games in which two girls Shakila and Ifra excelled in Nordic Cross Country 5 km and 10 km races and we ranked 4th and 5th respectively,” said Sadiq Ali, National Coach and Coach of Ladakh team.
He further said that 7 boys, with 4 in senior and 3 in junior categories participated in Alpine Skiing Slalom and G. Slalom race and displayed good skills to get the nod of the authorities.
Sadiq Ali further said that Baqir Hussain, International Skier from Kargil representing Indian Army won gold medals in various events to make Ladakh proud.
He said that Ladakh has a great potential in Winter Sports and can emerge as an alternative destination for winter sports for a period of six months in a year.
Sadiq Ali also appreciated Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan for assuring that the basic infrastructure in Kargil for Snow Skiing at Drass and Suru will be improved at an earliest.
“Soon Basic Snow Ski Course will be started in Kargil for which Indian Institute of Mountaineering Gulmarg will be providing 30 Skis and will be airlifted to Kargil with the help of LAHDC Kargil,” Sadiq Ali added.
