Kupwara’s Rashid wins Gold at Int’l Wushu C’ship

KUPWARA, Dec 17: Kupwara’s Wushu player Rashid Shafi brought laurels to the country by winning a gold medal in the 65 kg category at Nordic International Wushu Championship held in Sweden.
Representing Khelo India Wushu Centre, Handwara, Rashid secured the top podium finish by defeating a Swedish opponent in the finals. Rashid Shafi hails from Kupwara district and has been training at the Khelo India Centre, Handwara, for the past four years. His consistent performances earned him a place in the Indian Wushu contingent following the national selection trials conducted at the Khelo India Centre, Meerut, in 2025.
After the championship, the Indian Embassy in Sweden felicitated the Indian Wushu team. The Ambassador of India praised the medallists and specially congratulated Rashid for achieving international success despite numerous challenges.
The Wushu Association of J&K, led by President Vijay Saraf, along with senior officials, congratulated Rashid on his achievement. Kuldeep Handoo also lauded Rashid, his coach and the J&K Sports Council for nurturing talent through world-class facilities at Handwara.
