JAMMU, Nov 18: Khalsa Club Gole Gujral and Zorawar Club Satwari defeated their rivals to advance into the next round of the ongoing Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial Hockey Tournament, being organized by Kashmir Sikh Sangat, under the aegis of Hockey J&K at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here.
In the first match, Khalsa Club defeated Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club by a solitary goal and the goal scorer was Gurveer Singh, who netted it in 20th minute of the match. Despite being awarded galaxy of penalty corners, none of the teams succeeded in converting them into goals.
Jai Pal Singh, Member Public Service Commission was the chief guest on the occasion, while Satinder Singh Bali, former Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports was the guest of honour.
In another match played today, Zorawar Club thrashed Ajit Club Gole Gujral by five goals to nil (5-0). For Zorawar Club Satwari, Shivay Vaid scored the first goal in 7th minute, while the second goal was scored by Harsh Vaid in 10th minute and the 3rd goal by Tanvir Singh in 24th minute. The other two goals were netted by Harpreet Singh and Prashant Singh in 40th and 55th minutes respectively.
Fateh Singh, member SGPC Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, while Rajbir Singh was the guest of honour.
The matches were officiated by Tajinder Singh, Charanjit Singh, Manjeet Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Gurjeet Singh, Jagjit Singh, Joginder Singh and Jaspreet Singh.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sewa Singh, president Kashmir Singh Sangat, Karamjit Singh, general secretary, K N Singh, Rajinder Singh, Bahadur Singh and Manjeet Singh.
The Tournament is being held under the supervision of GS Bakshi, general secretary Hockey J&K.
