KATHUA, June 26: Former Minister, Rajiv Jasrotia inaugurated Dangals at Dinga Amb and Mahi Chack to encourage the rural wrestlers towards sports activities, here today.
The Dangal was inaugurated in presence of Sarpanch Kuldeep Gupta and other prominent villagers wherein wrestlers from the Punjab, Haryana, J&K and Delhi participated.
The wrestlers including Yusuf Binia, Sindhu, Yusuf, Liyakat Ali and Sayeed Mohd won bouts by defeating their opponents during the event. The winner wrestlers were awarded with the cash prizes, while the overall winner of Dangal was awarded with Rs 51000 prize cash and runner up was given Rs 31000 by the former Minister.
While addressing the audience and wrestlers, the former Minister, Rajiv Jasrotia appreciated the villagers for maintaining the legacy of rural wrestling by holding such types of ‘Dangals’ which educate the youth to maintain their health and stay away from social evils like drug menace.
He also said that the Dangal is also a sign of brotherhood and unity between villagers and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Government took the initiative to promote the rural sports by establishing rural sports infrastructures.
Meanwhile, a Dangal was also organised in Panchayat Dhaggar of Tehsil Bani wherein Hafiz of Lohi Malhar lifted the Dhaggar Dangal title trophy by defeating Tariq from Doda. The wrestlers from across the country took part in the event and displayed their wrestling skills besides appreciable degree of sportsmanship.
ZMO Koti Chandyar, Dr Rameshwar Singh was the chief guest who awarded the winners. Dr Rameshwar Singh said that this annual Dangal event depicts proud historical background and mutual brotherhood and communal of the people of area as people of both Hindu and Muslim communities together started this Mela. He also appreciated the vital role played by the Dangal Committee in organizing the Mela.
The committee members including Sarpanch Amir Chand and Dr Nek Ram appreciated the role played by Dr Rameshwar Singh in making this Dangal successful.
