JAMMU, Feb 1: Six students and one teacher of KC Public School attended the Round Square Global Conference hosted by Welham Boys’ School Dehradun.
A large number of schools from all over the world participated. The delegation of KCPS students in the age group of 12 to 13 escorted by Rachna Sharma consisted of Mishika Mittal, Jai Vikrant, Suhani Sachdeva, Divyansh Gupta, Samyagya Chopra and Pranav Akshit.
In addition to senior office bearers of Round Square South Asia and Middle East Region and heads of member schools, Katie Di Feliciantonio, Digital Communications Manager at Round Square HQ in UK, also attended the conference. The theme of the Conference was ‘Escape the Ordinary’.
The inaugural function was a grand affair with famed cine artist Diya Mirza as the keynote speaker. Mirza is UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador and also Ambassador of Wild Life Trust in India. In her keynote address, she urged the young people to work assiduously for the conservation of earth’s fragile environment and the wild life co-habiting the planet with us. Another keynote speaker was Dr Anand Gokani, a well-known Endocrinologist and Diabetologist, who emphasized the need for taking smaller steps to achieve larger goals. One more keynote speaker Anuvab Pal, an eminent Indian stand-up comedian, playwright and novelist amused the delegates by sharing his life experiences in a humorous manner.
Student and teacher delegates took part in a number of Round Square activities during 5 days of the conference that included barazza and rikka sessions, community service and adventure. For adventure, treks, field trips and hurdle courses in and around Dehradun were organized. For service, delegates visited Homes, Institutions and Ashrams in Dehradun and Rishikesh for people with special needs and took part in a number of service related activities. They also learned hands-on skills such as tie and dye, mehandi art, baking, cooking, pottery, calligraphy and sign language during the conference.
The conference concluded with a short ceremony followed by a cultural programme presented by delegates from different schools. In the general get-together, KCPS delegates interacted with Katie from Round Square Head Office in the UK and apprised her of the progress they had been making as a Round Square school in J&K.
