KC Strikers wins thriller to emerge champion in KPPL

JAMMU, Dec 2: Getting the better of Milchar Chargers in a thriller by a narrow margin of 5 runs in the summit clash, KC Young Strikers emerged champion in the 1st edition of the Kashmiri Pandit Premier League (KPPL), organised by Iqwaat Sports Organisation, an initiative of Vishwa Kashmiri Samaj at MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, put into bat, KC Young Strikers scored 132 runs in stipulated 20 overs. Rohan Koul top scored with 62 runs off 56 balls while Sanchit Dass contributed 47 runs off 38 balls. Sumit Bhat was the wrecker-in-chief for Milchar Chargers, who took four wickets by conceding 20 runs in his 4 overs.
In reply, Milchar Chargers managed to score 127 runs to lose the match by a narrow margin of 5 runs. Anshul top scored with 53 runs off 49 balls. For KC Young Strikers, Ayush was the pick of the bowlers, who took three wickets in his 4 overs by conceding 17 runs. For his superb all-round display, Sanchit Dass was adjudged as the man of the series and man of the match in final, while Rohan Koul was declared as the best batsman. Virender Thusoo claimed the best bowler title.
Match officials including BK Tickoo, Sudhir Singh and Vijay Raina were felicitated on the occasion, while young volunteers Shivam Koul, Praful Dhar, Ritik Jotshi, Akash Raina, Rakshit and Atul were also honoured for their tireless efforts during the tournament.
Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, while Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor Central University of Jammu presided over the function. Dr Agnishekhar, Convener Panun Kashmir; Prof BL Zutshi, eminent writer & thinker; Rajesh Gupta, working president VHP; Dr Gautam Goel, general secretary J&K Civil Society; Raman Suri, executive council member BJP; Kuldeep Luthra, social activist; Ankush Abrol, former member BCCI, Dr Rupali Slathia, BCCI Level-II coach, Dr TK Moza, former Director Health Services, Dr Chand Narayan Tickoo and Balbir Singh Jamwal, general secretary J&K Badminton Association were the guests of honour, while MK Yogi, president NC Minority Cell; Shiban Lal Trakroo, working committee member JKCA; Kanya Lal Koul, working committee member JKCA; Rohit Bhat, president Vomedh, Hira Lal Bhat, social activist and Sahil Pandita & Ajay Kumar, Rising Athlete Jagti were the special guests.
The chief guest while lavishing praise on the organisers said that the time was ripe to hold a similar event in Kashmir valley, while Aima said that he felt ecstatic to see cricket extravaganza being organised for Kashmiri Pandit youth in exile.
Earlier, in his welcome address Kiran Wattal, convener Vishwa Kashmiri Samaj expressed satisfaction over successful conclusion of this mega event said that the organisation will hold a bigger event in Valley soon. He thanked J&K Sports Council and Jammu and Kashmir Police Department for helping the organisers in holding the event in a befitting manner.
Meanwhile, along with a glittering trophy sponsored by Martand KP Brigade, the winners received a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while the runners-up team was presented a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,000 by the chief guest and other dignitaries. Along with a trophy, the man of the series awardee was presented a kit bag sponsored by KIS, while the best batsman received a good quality cricket bat besides a trophy.
The tournament was organised by a 4-member organising committee including Rajesh Dhar (Chief Organiser), Ashish Kachroo (Organiser), Ankur Bagati (Organiser) and Pintoo Ji (Coordinator).
