SRINAGAR, June 24: After making it to the headlines, Nahida Manzoor, 26, has returned home after successfully climbing Mount Everest.
The achievement has made her first woman from Kashmir to have reached the summit.
Belonging to Zewan area of Srinagar, Nahida revealed her ordeal of climbing to the Excelsior after successfully completing the trip. She was appreciative of the support that was extended to her by the family.
She began her trip from Srinagar on June 6 which ended on June 23. Nahida says that she was so excited that even the lack of oxygen did not deter her for reaching the summit.
“When I was near the summit, my oxygen was about to exhaust; even my friends told me to not to go on the summit because the oxygen was critically low, but it did not deter me, I carried on and reached the summit,” she said.
Belonging to a middle-class family, Nahida said that she was determined to make it to the Everest at any cost, which she finally did. “I had set my eyes on a big dream, it was a dream also because of the cost of the expedition,” she said.
The family members and the relatives, including the sponsors, had reached to the airport to give Nahida a warm welcome on her arrival, but she said that the Government has turned a blind eye.
“Everybody came to my welcome, but nothing has been done by the Government for my support, even after achieving the feat”, she said.
Nahida’s mother said that her daughter has made her feel proud and that they will keep on supporting her.
“I am feeling proud of her. She has proven the fact that even the daughters can make their parents proud. I have three daughters, but I don’t have any regret that I don’t have a son; my daughters have never made me feel so,” her mother said.
It is to be mentioned that in the run-up to the expedition, Nahida had to rely on a crowd-funding initiative for realizing her dream.
