Chennai, May 30:
Top Seed Sriram Balaji started tentatively and seeming to be rattled by some line calls conceded the first set 1-6 to Bumpei Sato, seed 6, but Sriram come back strongly to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Men’s dingles ITF Futures tennis championship here today.
Vijayant Malik, the third seed, beat a lethargic Garvit Batra in straight sets without much ado.Garvit had played a long match yesterday.
Karunuday Singh, seed 8, upset Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, the
Second seed surprisingly in two comfortable sets. Karunuday served strongly and played to a plan and got the better of a very tentative Jeevan in the first set. Karunuday kept up the pressure to sail through in the second set 6-3. Prajnesh Gunnerswaran once again served very strongly and played some solid ground strokes to out play the serve and volley Japanese Player Toshihide Matsui in two tight sets. Both players served well but Prajnesh with an extra break won the set 7-5. The second set was much closer and in the tiebreak Prajnesh played two brilliant passing shots – one a forehand and the second a backhand return of serve to win the tiebreak, the set and the match. In the Semifinals Prajnesh Gunneswaran will meet Karunuday Singh and Sriram Balaji will play Vijayant Malik both matches are likely to be very interesting. (UNI)
