SRINAGAR, Aug 29: The team of Karnataka Postal Circle today lifted 26th All India Postal Football Tournament-2012 trophy by 1-0 goal defeating the team of Kerala Postal Circle in final which was played at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.
The 5-day foot ball tourney was organized by the J&K Postal Circle in which 9 team from the country’s postal circles participated.
Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather was the chief guest, while as Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Rather appreciated Chief Post Master General, J&K Circle  John Samual for bringing improvement in the working of the post-offices and carry forward it to the new heights. He applauded the postal organization for contributing in banking movement, adding that 12 post offices both in  Srinagar and Jammu cities and two each in every district headquarters have been assigned for banking transactions.
Chib termed year-2012 as the year  of foot ball for the valley, adding that recently Mohammadan Sporting Club, Club Kolkatta visited the state and played two matches in which host team emerged victorious in both the matches. The State has also set to organize Foot Ball National School Games by September, he said, adding that Mohan Bagan, Football team has also been invited for playing football matches at Srinagar and Jammu by the second week of September. The conduct of All India Postal Football tournaments in Srinagar is also another feather in the cap.
The Minister complimented the winner and participating teams. He hoped that the players of guest teams would play a role of ambassador and convey the message of peace, amity and hospitality to their respective states.  Referring to National Sports Day, he said that similar function was also organized to honour the legend sports persons in Jammu.
Later, the Ministers gave away trophy and medals to the winner and runner-up teams. They also distributed individual medals among the players who performed well during the tournament.
The ace players of the state were also honoured by the J&K postal circle on the eve of National Sports Day.
Chief Post Master General John Samual announced that the General Post office, Srinagar will also function up to 8 pm on all holidays and Sunday.
Among others, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Dalip Thussu,  Director, Postal Services, Director, Accounts, J&K Postal Circle, Vice-President, J&K Bank, President, J&K Football Association, officers and officials of Postal Department, J&K State Sports Council, besides sports lovers were present.
