UDHAMPUR, May 20: The civil society of Udhampur organized an impressive felicitation ceremony to honour the daughters of the district who brought laurels to Jammu & Kashmir and the nation by winning medals at the International Karate Championship held in Kandy, Sri Lanka, where athletes from ten countries participated.
A total of nine girls from Panchari and Moungri areas of Udhampur represented J&K and secured three gold and six silver medals. Gold medal winners Manisha Devi, Jyoti Devi and Kamlesh Devi were felicitated, while Sushila Bharati, Renu Devi, Minakshi Devi, Pooja Devi, Kiran Devi and Divti Devi were honoured for winning silver medals.
The grand function witnessed the presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police Udhampur-Reasi Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Director SKPAU Benam Tosh, MLA Udhampur East Pawan Kumar Gupta, and several other dignitaries, social activists were present.
Meanwhile, the Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Memorial Trust also felicitated the same group of champions upon their return, appreciating their remarkable achievement. Chairman Devraj Gupta praised the players, coaching staff, and support team for their dedication, highlighting that the athletes trained for months under coach Priyanka Jamwal in rural conditions. The team was led by head coach Vishwanath Rajput and manager Kailash Dutt.
