JAMMU, May 30: The Annual Campus Sports Day-cum-Prize Distribution Function for the session 2016-17 was held at University Sports Stadium, here today.
The programme was organized by the Campus Sports Committee, University of Jammu.
Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Dr. SD Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu, J&K Police was the Guest of Honour, who gave away prizes and trophies to the participants.
The prizes and trophies were distributed among the winners and runners-up teams/players of the Inter-Departmental Tourna-ments and Jammu University Employees Tournaments organized in the disciplines of Badminton, Chess, Carrom, TT, Volleyball and Cricket.
The track-suits were awarded to the students who participated in the North-Zone / All India Inter-University and Senior National Championships during the year 2016-17. Awards were also given to the employees and children who excelled in the events of 100 meters, 50 meters, Tug-of-War, Musical Chair, Spoon Race and Three-legged Race.
Prof RD Sharma in his address lauded the efforts of the Campus Sports Committee and advised everyone to participate in games and sports to live a healthy life, while Dr Jamwal also had an inspirational speech on the occasion.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar University of Jammu also addressed the gathering.
Vikas Karlopia, I/C PTI Campus presented the vote of thanks.
In University Employees Tournament Badminton (Men) singles, Dr. Sandeep Arya (Physics Deptt) was the winner, while Vikas Karlopia (Phy.Edu) was the runners-up, while in Badminton (Men) doubles, Chaman Lal Sharma and Vishal Sudhan were the winners and Gursharan Singh and S Gagandeep Singh were the runners-up.
Table-Tennis (Men): Winner- Prof Rakesh Vaid (Electronics); Runners-up- Prof PVKS Baba (Physics)
Carrom (Men): Winner-Prof PVKS Baba (Physics); Runners-up- S Gurmeet Singh (Hindi).
Carrom (Men) Doubles: Winner- S Gurmeet Singh and Sudesh Kumar; Runners-up- Prof PVKS Baba and Pawan Singh.
Carrom (Women): Winner-Dr Meghna Dhar (Library Science); Runners-up-Pooja Manhas (DDE).
Carrom (Women) Doubles: Winner-Dr Meghna Dhar and Savita Nayyar; Runners-up-Pooja Manhas and Komal Bakshi.
Badminton (Women): Winner-Komal Bakshi (DDE); Runners-up- Dr Savita Nayyar (Law Deptt).
