JAMMU, June 1: The University of Jammu has launched its Employees Cricket Tournament 2026-27, reaffirming its commitment to promoting sports culture and fostering camaraderie among teaching and non-teaching staff. The tournament is being organized by the Chairman Campus Sports Committee under the supervision of Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Chairman, Campus Sports Committee and Raj Kumar Bakshi, In-charge PTI & Cricket Coach, University of Jammu.
The annual event aims to promote physical fitness, teamwork and a healthy work-life balance among employees while providing a platform for interaction beyond official duties. Matches are being held at the University Cricket Ground with proper arrangements for fair play and safety.
In Match No. 1, Team I defeated Team J (Bhaderwah Campus) by 6 wickets. Batting first, Team J scored 160 runs in 20 overs, with Suheel contributing 84 runs and Mohd. Ilyas 25 runs. For Team I, Rajesh took 2 wickets, while PP Singh, Parshotam and Munish claimed one wicket each. In reply, Team I chased the target in 15.4 overs, scoring 161/4. Sajan Thakur scored 68 runs while Rajesh added 55 runs. Zakir Butt and Sushil took one wicket each.
In Match No. 2, Team B defeated Team C by 7 wickets. Team C posted 116/9 in 20 overs, with Vishal scoring 59 runs. Kulbir starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets, while Dr Surinder Sharma took 2 wickets. Chasing the target, Team B reached 117/3 in 13 overs. Kulbir scored 50 runs, Dr Surinder Sharma 25, Sumit Dogra 17 and Balwant 15. Match officials included Vijay Kumar Raina, Ashok Singh and Raj Kumar Bakshi.
