JAMMU, Jan 19: At the tender age of 14 years, Soham Kamotra of Jammu and Kashmir has become the top FIDE rated player of the State after his brilliant show in International Grandmaster events held in Bhopal and New Delhi recently.
His International rating in the new list will be 2066 which is higher than all the players of J&K State.
The young and promising player has been trained by Vivek Bharti for 5 long years, who has the distinction of producing Commonwealth Gold Medalist, Meenal Gupta also.
President All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association, Atul Kumar Gupta and Vice President Baldev Raj while congratulating the champ wished him luck for future events and hoped that his continuous hard work will bring name to J&K at the International events.
He also had won second position in National Amateur Chess Championship at New Delhi in November last year in below 2000 rating category.
For their outstanding contribution the budding chess champ and his coach were honoured by the Association today.
