JAMMU, Sept 12: Ace Chess player Arushi Kotwal of Jammu and Kashmir won bronze medal in Western Asian Blitz Chess Championship at New Delhi, recently.
Hailing from Chinta in Bhaderwah, Arushi won the medal in Under-16 girls age category.
She also played very well in Classical and Rapid sections in the same event but was unlucky to miss the medal closely in these events.
A total number of 377 players from 10 Asian countries participated in this Championship.
President All Jammu & Kashmir Chess Association, Atul Kumar Gupta congratulated Arushi for this wonderful show.
Atul said that it is because of the platform provided to J&K kids by AJKCA.
“Kids are now continuously showing good performances at National and International events,” Atul added.
With this medal, Arushi has become first player from Jammu and Kashmir to win medals in all three formats, viz; Standard, Rapid and Blitz.
It is pertinent to mention here that Arushi has the distinction of winning four medals in prestigious Asian School Championship in Sri Lanka and silver medal in Western Asia Chess Championship 2018 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She was awarded WCM title by FIDE to become first titled Chess player from the State.
