JAMMU, May 24: Para Judoka Anshuman Sharma from Jammu & Kashmir has been selected for the prestigious IOCL Divya Shakti Para-Athlete (Scholarship) Scheme, in recognition of his remarkable achievements in national and international Para Judo.
Anshuman, who competes in the J1 (totally blind) category, has won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the National Games and represented India at the World Para Judo Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Under the scheme, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) will provide Anshuman with an annual grant of Rs 3.5 lakh, supporting his continued pursuit of sporting excellence.
Expressing gratitude, Anshuman dedicated his success to his mentor and Chief Judo Coach of the J&K Sports Council, Suraj Bhan Singh, whose guidance he credits as instrumental in his journey.
Among the four para judokas selected across India-two male and two female-Anshuman is the only male athlete from Jammu & Kashmir, making this recognition a proud moment for the region.
“When the world turns dark, I choose to shine from within. My blindness doesn’t define me-my courage does,” said Anshuman.
