J&K’s 5 sport climbers leave for Darjeeling

JAMMU, June 18: Five sport climbers of Mountaineering Association of Jammu and Kashmir namely Shivani Charak, Mrityunjay Sharma, Ajay Deep Singh, Asma Gul and Arun Deep Singh left today for Darjeeling to participate in the IMF All India Bouldering and Lead Climbing competition scheduled to be held at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling from June 21 to 23, 2019. Shivani Charak, an international climber is the coach cum manager of the team.
All the climbers had strenuous workouts for 21 days at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing wall in the Sprawling Buds ICSE School Campus, Bantalab, here under the supervision of Abhimanyu Sherpa, former All India Champion and Shilpa Charak, senior climber before the team was screened by the officials of J&K State Sports Council headed by Divisional Sports Officer, Ravi Singh.
The team is well balanced with potential winners Shivani Charak, an international climber, Ajay Deep Singh, who won two gold medals in the last All India Competition at Delhi, Arun Deep Singh, who secured 4th rank in both Speed climbing and Bouldering in the last such competition, Mrityunjay Sharma and Asma Gul, both very strong and talented climbers and ranked in the top-10 climbers in the country.
The state team has been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
