JAMMU, Jan 5: Wushu athletes from the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir delivered an outstanding performance at the Wushu Federation Cup, held at Chhattisgarh, by winning an impressive 39 medals, including 9 Gold, 12 Silver and 18 Bronze. The achievement underlines the growing strength of Wushu in the UT and highlights the positive impact of sustained grassroots sports development initiatives.
In Taolu events, the Sub-Junior medal winners included Aahan Sharma (one Gold and two Silver medals), Kartavya Verma (Gold), Dhruvika Gupta (two Gold), Tanish Deep Singh (Bronze), Veer Vikram Singh (Bronze) and Bhavkul Handoo (two Bronze). In the Junior category, medal winners were Swarit Singh Chib (one Gold and two Silver), Pratibha Devi (one Gold and one Silver), Pawana Saini (one Gold and one Silver) and Syeda Kubra (Bronze). The Senior Taolu medalists included Kunal Sharma (Silver) and Abhi Kumar (Silver and Bronze). Overall, the Taolu contingent secured a total of 19 medals.
In Sanda events, the Sub-Junior medal winners were Hadiya, Anvi, Sakshdeep, Ahsan-ul-Haq, Mursleen, Sanveer and Sana Sheraz. The junior category medallists included Kapish (Gold), Ritish, Arham, Burhaan and Umaan (Silver). In the senior category, medals were won by Sadiya, Mehreen (Gold), Rohan, Jameel, Kannu and Showkat (Silver). The Sanda team bagged a total of 18 medals.
On their return, the athletes were felicitated by Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo, who lauded their dedication and attributed the success to systematic training through Khelo India Centres established across the UT. He stressed the importance of continued support to prepare the athletes for upcoming international competitions.
Meanwhile, the Wushu Association of J&K, led by its President Vijay Saraf along with other office bearers, congratulated the athletes and coaches for their commendable performance and for bringing laurels to Jammu & Kashmir at the national level.
