JAMMU, Feb 22: Jammu and Kashmir scripted a thrilling 1-wicket victory over Chhattisgarh in the ongoing Men’s Cricket U-23 One Day Tournament at Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground, Jaipur today.
Winning the toss and putting Chhattisgarh into bat, Jammu and Kashmir restricted them to a modest total of 177 runs in 43.5 overs. It was a disciplined show from almost all the J&K bowlers, who hit right areas from the word go. Auqib Nabi was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets by conceding 29 runs in his 6.5 overs, while Irfan Haq bagged 2 wickets by giving away 27 runs in 9 overs. Abhishant Bakshi, Abid Mushtaq and Imtiyaz Ahmed Ganai also claimed one wicket each. Mayank Wadher was the top scorer from Chhattisgarh with 53 runs, while skipper AG Tiwari contributed 30 runs to the total. Sahban Khan and Gagandeep Singh chipped in with 18 and 15 runs respectively.
In reply, Jammu and Kashmir chased the target in 44.5 overs by losing 9 wickets, thus won the match in a close contest by one wicket. Jiyaad Nazir Magray was the top scorer with 54 runs off 86 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six, while Abhishant Bakshi contributed valuable 31 runs off 25 balls with the help of 4 boundaries and one six. Abid Mushtaq contributed quick-fire 26 runs off 16 balls, studded with one four and 3 massive sixes, while Nipun Verma also played well and made 22 off 55 balls with the help of 4 boundaries.
From Chhattisgarh, NB Dhruw was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 4 wickets by conceding 32 runs in his 9.5 overs, while Sahban Khan, SV Thakur and Gagandeep Singh claimed one wicket each.
