J&K UT Senior Open Chess C’ship final today

JAMMU, Jan 4: The final of the J&K UT Senior Open Chess Championship will be held tomorrow at Press Club here.
Soham Kamotra emerged as clear leader after 5 rounds with 4.5 points. He is closely followed by Sumit Grover and Khalid Amin at 4 points. Third table game between Adil Ashraf and Mayank Kulkarni was going on at the time when last results came.
In women section, Arushi Kotwal emerged as clear leader with 4 points out of 4 followed by Alankrita Sharma at 3 points.
Selected players from Divisional Level events from Jammu and Kashmir are participating in this event besides some donor entries allowed by association.
Events are held in Senior Men, Senior Women and in U-19 open as well.
In U-19 open event, Shakeel Suhail is leading with 4 points followed by Parray Usman and Manzoor Bazif at 3 points each.
The event is being organized by All J&K Chess Association and sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
All the matches were held under the supervision of President AJKCA Atul Kumar Gupta. Fide Arbiter Anil Kotwal is Chief Arbiter for this event while AR Wani, Mushtaq Ahmed Malik and Burhan Wani are Arbiter/ Technical Experts.
Among others present were Arshid Ahmad Kolu, Secretary AJKCA, Khalid Amin, Baldev Raj, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Raj Kumar, Faisal Farooq, Ashiq Ahmed, etc.
All the matches are being conducted in Swiss System by Swiss Software as per latest international rules.
Mahesh Rustogi, Principal Commissioner GST’ is giving brilliant performance in the event. Despite his ultra busy schedule, he has already won 3 matches.
A total of 7 rounds will be played in this event. Final will be played tomorrow.
This is also direct selection event for forthcoming Senior Men and Women Nationals.
