J&K UT Boxing C’ship gets underway

JAMMU, Dec 27: J&K UT Boxing Championship, organised by J&K Amateur Boxing Association got underway at J&K Police Sports Complex Gulshan Ground, here today.
“Boxers from lesser popular districts of Udhampur and Kathua along with talented players from Poonch today impressed the youngster boxers with their performances,” said organisers of the event.
In semi-finals of men sub-junior 33-35 kg: Pranav Kumar of Udhampur beat Ahsan-ul-Haq of Poonch, whereas in 37-40 kg. Talib Hussain of Kathua trounced Taqeeb Ahmed of Poonch and in 43-46 kg, Sharb Ayaz of Poonch defeated Mohd Ateeb of Srinagar.
In 46-49 kg, Ramzan Wani of Baramulla got better of Mohd Afzal from Poonch.
In junior 54-57 kg, Mohd Manan of Poonch trounced Rohit Kumar of Udhampur, whereas in 50-32 kg, Mayank Chettri of Jammu beat Dhiraj Sharma of Jammu and in 54-57 kg category, Aaqib Khan of Srinagar got better of Aman Bhau of Jammu while in 52-54 kg category, Sunil Kumar of Jammu trounced Vishal Kohli of Samba.
“The finals in a couple of important weight categories will be followed by the valedictory function of the three-day championship tomorrow. The technical penal had a tough time to complete the laid down schedule today, so they deserve appreciation for achieving the targets,” said organising secretary of the championship, Rajan Sharma.
Anil Wadhera (J&K Sports Council), Inder Singh (BSF), Mushtaq Ahmed (Poonch), Harinder Pal (University of Jammu), Gautam (Jammu), Sujat Pathan (J&K Police), Khalida Bano (J&K Police), Aman Sangral (J&K Police) and Sandeep Singh (Ramban) were among the technical panel.
