JAMMU, Oct 12: Jammu and Kashmir suffered a humiliating defeat by an innings and 134 runs against Punjab in the ongoing Vijay Merchant Under-16 Cricket Tournament at Dhruv Pandove Stadium, Patiala in Punjab.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight total of 12/2, Jammu and Kashmir bundled out for paltry 90 runs in the first innings, and after following on collapsed at 106 runs in the second essay to lose the 3-day match in less than two days of play.
In the first innings, Mousub Ahmed Bhat was the only batsman to show some resistance, scoring 29 runs, while in the second innings, Akshit Gandral played a brilliant knock of 51 runs off 51 balls, studded with 10 crispy boundaries. Rydham (19) was another contributor from J&K, while all other batsmen failed to apply. Akashjit Dhillon was the star performer from Punjab, who took 6 important wickets by conceding 41 runs in 12.2 overs in the first innings, while in the second innings, the wickets were shared by almost all the Punjab bowlers.
Punjab had scored a good total of 330 runs in the first innings yesterday, which included a sparkling century by Mayank Gupta, who scored 143 runs.
