J&K plays goalless draw against Himachal in Santosh Trophy

JAMMU, Feb 4: J&K State Football team played a goalless draw against Himachal Pradesh in the ongoing Santosh Trophy campaign here in capital.
This was the last match of the competition for North Zone qualifiers of the 68th Santosh Trophy. Punjab and Uttrakhand were the two teams who qualified for main rounds of the competition to be held at Siliguri.
In today’s first match, Punjab outplayed Uttar Pradesh by three goals to nil thus making their berth in the main rounds from group B of North zone.
From group A Uttrakhand completed their campaign and were successful to take points lead inthe table and qualified from group A for the main rounds.
In the second match, J&K and Himachal shared a point each as both the teams were unable to qualify. It was again the striker’s of J&K who missed some clear scoring chances and were unable to take the lead in the first half of the match. The story continued in the second half as well, creating goal scoring opportunities but failing to covert in the end resulting a goalless draw against Himachal. Standing 2nd in the table after Punjab with UP on third and Himachal on 4th place respectively.
Starting the campaign with a winning note against UP by three goals to nil, J&K were the favourites but the lack of scoring remained problem throughout the tournament resulting an exit for the main round qualifiers.
