JAMMU, Oct 11: Jammu and Kashmir State cricket team defeated the teams from Tamil Nadu and CBSE convincingly in the ongoing 61st National School Games in the discipline of Cricket Under-19 girls, being organized under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Chandigarh.
In the first match, J&K defeated CBSE by a big margin of 93 runs.
Batting first, J&K scored a decent total of 129 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Skipper Nadia Choudhary was the top scorer with 36 runs, while Bhavika and Tanisha contributed 20 runs each and Arti chipped in with 11 runs.
In reply, CBSE bundled out for a paltry total of 36 runs in 13 overs, thus lost the match by a huge margin of 93 runs. Heena Kouser was the pick of the bowlers who took 2 important wickets, while Nadia Choudhary, Bhavika and Raj Kumari claimed one wicket each.
In another pool match, J&K crushed Tamil Nadu by 8 wickets in a low scoring game.
Batting first, Tamil Nadu collapsed at 36 runs in 12.2 overs. None of their players crossed the double figure mark. For J&K, Heena Kouser was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 4 important wickets by conceding 11 runs in her 3.2 overs, while Nadia and Tanisha bagged 2 wickets each. Bhavika and Raj Kumari also claimed one wicket each.
In reply, J&K chased the runs easily by losing 2 wickets to win the match by 8 wickets. Bhavika scored 13 runs, while Nadia contributed unbeaten 12 runs to the total. However, J&K lost to Maharashtra in a thrilling contest by 2 wickets in another pool match.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) sponsored J&K team is being accompanied by Satika Sharma as coach and Vineet Kumar Pangotra as manager.
