J&K eves register 4th consecutive win, but fail to qualify

JAMMU, Oct 4: Led by skipper Rudrakshi Chib’s brilliance, all-rounder Sadiya Wani’s excellence, gritty Ronaq Jahan’s radiance, medium pacer Mariya Noorain’s exuberance and above all gritty and gutsy Bawandeep Kaur’s patience helped Jammu and Kashmir to thrash Meghalaya by 75 runs in the Plate Group Round V match of the Women’s Under-19 One Day Trophy at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Bhubaneswar, today.
However, despite winning four out of five matches, J&K failed to qualify for the knockout stage. Sikkim, who defeated J&K in the first outing of the tournament made it to the quarterfinal stage.
Earlier, put into bat, Jammu and Kashmir scored a good total of 177 runs in 50 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Opening batter Bawandeep Kaur, who slammed brilliant half-century yesterday, again scored a magnificent half-century today. She contributed 54 off 118 balls and laid a solid foundation, while all-rounder Sadiya Wani contributed brisk 37 runs off 28 balls to the total. Rudrakshi scored 31 off 88 balls, while Sheena Saraf contributed 22 runs off 36 balls. Extras contributed 26 runs to the total
Sistilin Rintathisng was the pick of the bowlers for Maghalaya, who took 2 wickets by conceding 25 runs in her 9 overs, while N Roy and Ankita S claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Meghalaya bundled out for 102 runs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 75 runs. Ankita S (20) and N Roy (16) were the main scorers, while extras contributed 35 runs to the total.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Sadiya Wani and Neemami Slathia took 3 wickets each, while Mariya Noorain bagged 2 wickets. Rudrakshi and Ronaq Jahan claimed 1 wicket each.
