J&K boys in pre-quarters, girls drub Uttrakhand

JAMMU, Dec 7: Outplaying Delhi convincingly by 22 runs, the Jammu and Kashmir boys entered the pre-quarterfinals, while the girls got better of Uttrakhand in the opening match of the Championship at Sunder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh, today.
Earlier, in the boys contest, J&K after winning the toss and deciding to bat first, scored a decent total of 74 runs in the allotted 8 overs by losing 2 wickets. Rajat Sharma was the top scorer with 32 runs, while Burhan contributed 24 runs to the total.
In reply, Delhi bundled out for 52 runs in 6.5 overs to lose the match by 22 runs. For J&K, Zubair Bakshi and Abrar Beigh bagged 2 wickets each, while Pavit Singh Ishar and Aman Sharma claimed one wicket each.
In other matches in boys section, Rajasthan defeated HP, Delhi prevailed over AIIB, Maharashtra outplayed Uttrakhand and Gujarat trounced Bihar.
In the girls’ section, Jammu and Kashmir trounced Uttrakhand by 3 wickets in an easy contest.
Uttrakhand bundled out for 29 runs in 6 overs and none of the batswomen could contribute much. For J&K, Sumaiya and Amreena Bashir took 2 wickets each, while Aratrika Razdan claimed one wicket.
In reply, J&K chased the target in just 3 overs, scoring 32 for the loss of 5 wickets and won the match by 3 wickets. Sumaiya contributed unbeaten 14 runs to the total, while Amreena chipped in with 12 valuable runs.
In other matches of girls’ section, Uttar Pradesh trounced West Bengal, Chhattisgarh defeated Maharashtra and Jharkhand beat Uttrakhand.
The Jammu and Kashmir teams have been selected by B K Tickoo, Saleem-ur-Rehman and Madan Mohan.
