J&K boxers shine in Nat'l, win 2 Bronze medals

JAMMU, Jan 5: Two J&K boxers namely Chanden Dev Singh and Arif Wani have proved their mettle in the 6th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship by winning two Bronze medals in different categories at Hisar in Haryana, today.
Chander Dev Singh defeated the players of Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand by 5-0 in their respectively bouts but received defeat from Chandigarh’s player Sumit by 2-3 and secured Bronze medal for Jammu and Kashmir, while Arif Wani defeated the players of Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra in his respective bouts by 5-0 each but was got defeated from Chandigarh by 2-3 and settled himself for the Bronze medal.
Both the players are from Jammu, trained by Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council’s Boxing coach, Anil Wadhera for the last many years. Chander Dev Singh and Arif Wani had enrolled themselves for professional cum advanced training with Council’s coach in the year of 2011 and 2014 respectively at Boxing Ring MA Stadium.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the year 1991, the J&K had won the first medal in the national, followed by in the year of 2015 by Pardeep Sharma of Janipur in the Senior National at Visakhapatnam but this time Chander and Arif scripted the history for J&K by clinching two medals simultaneously in the national event.
Coach Anil Wadhera hailed the hard work of both boxers and gave credit to their devotion, dedication and discipline towards boxing. He also wished them good luck for future events.
