J&K Boxer Yasser enters U-15 Asian C’ship final

RAJOURI, May 10: In a historic achievement for Jammu and Kashmir and Indian boxing, sub-junior boxer Mohd Yasser defeated his Iranian opponent to storm into the final of the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
With this remarkable victory, Yasser has become the first boxer from Jammu and Kashmir to reach the final of a continental championship and compete for the coveted gold medal at the Asian level. His outstanding performance has brought immense pride to the region and the country.
Ishtyaq Malik, Head Coach at the Khelo India Centre, Rajouri, who trained the teenager, said the championship has so far been a dream run for Yasser as he defeated boxers from some of the world’s top boxing nations to secure a place in the final.
Detailing his journey, Malik said Yasser defeated Tajikistan by 5-0 in the pre-quarterfinals, Kazakhstan by 5-0 in the quarterfinals and Iran by 4-1 in the semifinal. The final bout will take place on May 14, where Yasser will face Uzbekistan in the gold medal clash.
Yasser’s success reflects years of hard work, discipline and dedicated training under the guidance of his lifelong mentor and coach. Their relentless commitment and passion for the sport have placed Rajouri prominently on the international boxing map.
