JAMMU, May 25: The semifinals of the Akhnoor Football Cup were held today at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor, amid great enthusiasm and competitive spirit under the theme of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s anti-drug campaign, “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life.”
The Tournament is being organized by Akhnoor Sports Club with the objective of promoting sports culture and spreading awareness among youth against drug abuse and substance addiction.
In the first semifinal, J&K Bank Academy locked horns with Litecity FC in a closely contested encounter. Both teams played attacking football throughout the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw during regulation time. The result was eventually decided through a penalty shootout where J&K Bank Academy displayed composure and accuracy to secure a 4-2 victory and book their place in the final.
The second semifinal witnessed a dominant performance by Akhnoor Tigers Football Club A against Akhnoor Tigers Football Club B. Akhnoor Tigers FC A completely outplayed their opponents and registered a massive 9-0 win. Captain Sandeep Sharma emerged as the star performer of the match by scoring five goals and was declared Man of the Match for his outstanding display.
The matches were graced by SDM Akhnoor Mukhtar Ahmed as the chief guest, while SDPO Akhnoor Virender Gupta attended as guest of honour. SHO Akhnoor D R Ahmed was present as the special guest on the occasion.
Representatives from Rajput Sabha, NGO Umeed, Kabir Sabha, Ravi Dass Sabha and Sant Nirankari Mandal also attended the event as special invitees.
Among those present were Rajeev Sharma, chairman, Akhnoor Sports Club; Dharam Paul Gupta, president, Akhnoor Sports Club; Pawan Bharti, president, Akhnoor Tigers Football Club; Anshul Gupta, Director, Akhnoor Football Cup 2026; Jugal Kishore, Manager, Indoor Stadium Akhnoor; veteran football players Kishore Kumar, Devender Chandan, Aman Mahajan, Capt Jugal Raman Gupta and Ashok Kumar.
