J&K athlete finishes 3rd in U-17 final

JAMMU, May 12: Samba boy, Abhinav Kundal earned a name for the state when he finished third in the grand final of the GAIL Indian Speed Star Trials session-II in 400 meters event of the under-17 age group held at New Delhi under the banner of National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS).
Abhinav, a student of KV-II Jammu and resident of district Samba, represented North Zone in the all India level competition. Earlier, he represented district Kathua in the state level selection process held in December last. It was followed by his selection in the Zonal probable during the trials held in January last.
“The first and second place secured by Uttrakhand and New Delhi respectively in the same event. Now, the first position holders shall be getting advance coaching through NYCS as part of the 2020 and 2024 Olympic programme,” told State Representative of the NYCS, Opinder Sharma.
Abhinav was accompanied by District Representative (Kathua), Akshay Bharti.
The winning athletes were honoured by Union  Sports Minister, Vijay Goel while Petroleum Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan and HRD Minister, Prakash Javedkar were among other distinguished guest during the finals.
