JAMMU, Oct 18: Rich tributes were paid to student leaders Brij Mohan, Gulshan Handa, Subash Chander and Gurcharan Singh, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of Jammu in the year 1966.
The student leaders, who were killed in police firing in the year 1966, were demanding Jammu University, Professional Colleges and equity for Agricultural Graduates in their service rules.
Relatives of student martyrs, Principal, GGM Science College, Dr Satinder Singh, staff members and students paid floral tributes to student martyrs at Shaheedi Sthal, GGM Science College main gate.
Meanwhile, activists of Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF) performed Hawan for peace of the departed souls of student leaders and also ended their three-day long fast.
Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), University of Jammu, alongwith Dr Satinder Singh, Principal, GGM Science College, offered juice to the fasting activists of JJSF namely Rajinder Singh, president, Rahul Verma, Sumit Sharma and Abhi Gupta.
While speaking, Rajinder Singh, said that the student leaders, who lost their lives in the police firing in the year 1966, were raising voice against the discrimination with the Jammu region and laid down their lives for the sake of the Jammu people.
Singh reiterated their commitment that JJSF will work for the upliftment of the educational standard in the Jammu region and fight to end the discrimination going on with the region.
