JAMMU, Feb 15: The Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) wil host two-day 2nd National Sport Climbing Championship for visually challenged climbers at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here from March 23.
In this connection, Chairman of the National Sport Climbing Committee, Col J S Dhillon visited Sprawling Buds ICSE School, the venue of the competition, to inspect the climbing infrastructure and necessary allied facilities available at the School for the conduct of a national competition.
He promised to provide some technical equipment and technical officials from Indian Mountaineering Foundation for the efficient and smooth conduct of this competition.
While exhorting the young climbers to prepare for the forthcoming national and international competitions, Col Dhillon appreciated the efforts of MAJK to spot talent at the grass root level by regularly organizing coaching cum competitions for local schools.
Earlier, on his arrival in Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Col J S Dhillon was given a warm welcome by the Chairman and Principal of the School, Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma respectively, who were accompanied by host of climbers who had come specially to have an interaction with the national chairman.
Prominent among others present included functionaries of MAJK, Ram Khajuria (senior vice president); Yogeshwar Kumar (vice president); Shawetica Khajuria (general secretary); Prof. C.K Khajuria (a former general secretary); Khurshid Ahmad (former vice president); Sonam Sidharth (an executive member); prominent sport climbers, Abhimanyu Sherpa, Shivani Charak, Arun Deep Singh, Ajay Deep, Mrityunjay Sharma, Asma Gul and mountaineers, Ambreen Fatima, Vishali Sharma, Sourav Deep Singh and Sakshi Magotra.
Meanwhile, general secretary of MAJK, Shawetica Khajuria expressed her gratitude to Col. Dhillon for confirmation of the national championship at Jammu.
