JAMMU, Feb 3: Jammu Superstars XI trounced Jammu Kings XI by 6 wickets in a thrilling contest and lifted the JKP T20 Cup for Slum Cricketers, played at Parade ground, here today.
Danish Rana, IGP Jammu was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Uttam Chand, SSP Jammu was the guest of honour.
Danish Rana along with Uttam Chand distributed trophies and medals among the winners and runners-up teams along with the cricket equipment bag from the Police Department.
In his address, IGP Jammu said that Jammu and Kashmir Police will organize more events for the slum and under privileged cricketers in near future in a big manner with the objective to provide more platforms for these cricketers so that they can also show their talent.
He further said that the Police department is committed to arrange platforms for every youth of the State so they may be boosted and motivated in a right direction.
Uttam Chand while speaking said that Police is regularly conducting sports events under civic action program for the youths of the State and this event is also part of it.
Earlier, in the summit clash, Jammu Kings XI won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 101 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Gurjeet was top scorer with 26 runs, while Umesh made 22 runs and Rahul contributed 10 runs to the total.
For Jammu Superstars XI, Lakhan was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets, while Rakesh, Arun, Naresh and Sujal claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, Jammu Superstars XI achieved the target in 14 overs by losing 4 wickets thus won the match by 6 wickets. Lakhan played a good innings of 23 runs, while Sharvan and Sunil contributed 19 and 11 runs for the team.
For Jammu Kings XI, Umesh took 2 wickets, while Vinay and Gurjeet claimed 1 wicket each.
Lakhan was adjudged as man of the match for his all-round performance.
The exhibition match for slum cricketers was organized under Civic Action Programme by J&K Police in association with Vishal Cricket Club and Bethel Trust.
The refreshment and Lunch was sponsored by Seema Mahajan, President of Manav Uthaan. The Organizing Committee members included Hilal Rather, Sanjay Mahajan, RP Singh, Sunil Sambyal, David Mattoo and Rajesh Dhar.
Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Player and Chief Prosecuting Officer was the Organizing Secretary of the event. The proceedings of the events were conducted by RP Singh. The match was officiated by Sandeep Manchanda, Vinod and Sanju.
