Jammu shine in Volleyball; Cricket tourney begins in Kishtwar

UDHAMPUR/KISHTWAR, Apr 28: The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), J&K, continued to promote sporting excellence and social awareness through organising volleyball and cricket events under the “League of Classics” initiative.
At Udhampur, the Inter-District U-19 Boys Volleyball tournament concluded with great enthusiasm under the guidance of Director YSS, Anuradha Gupta. Teams from across the Union Territory participated, displaying high standards of competition. In the final, Jammu defeated Bandipora by 3-1 to clinch the title in a thrilling contest marked by strong rallies and teamwork. Vishal Singh of Jammu was adjudged best player of the match.
The closing ceremony was attended by Vice Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Udhampur, Rajesh Sharma, as chief guest. Officials including Vijay Kumar Jandial, Jyoti Rani and Ashok Padha were present. Sports kits were also presented to Boys HSS Udhampur.
Meanwhile, in Kishtwar’s Padder, the Inter-District U-17 Boys Cricket tournament was inaugurated under the 100 Days Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan. The event saw participation from 20 districts. SDPO Padder Vijay Bhagat, the chief guest, declared the tournament open and urged youth to stay away from drugs through sports.
The programme featured the National Anthem and Nasha Mukt pledge. Officials and dignitaries emphasized the role of sports in promoting discipline, unity and a drug-free society. The opening match between Jammu and Bandipora set an energetic tone.
