Jammu Runners Group again makes a mark in Half Marathon

JAMMU, Apr 17: Making a mark at higher levels Jammu Runners Group again brought laurels to the State by winning a big haul of 23 medals in the recently concluded Vaisakhi Half Marathon at Anandpur Sahib in Punjab.
The event is being organized by Super Sikh Foundation to promote humanitarian values and concept of ‘Sewa’.
The event started and finished at Panj Pyaare Park, Opposite Anandpur Sahib, Polo Arena, near Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib Gurudwara.
The Half Marathon route ran along the majestic Satluj River, nested among the Shivalik Hills.
About 2000 runners drawn from various parts of thje Country participated in the event of Half Marathon and 7 kilometers race.
The event was flagged off by 107-year old, Fauja Singh in an impressive and well attended function, while 104-year Bibi Man Kour, 100 meters International gold medalist   for so many years in Masters Category was the guest of honmour and 76-year S. Amar Couhan was the Half Marathon finisher.
The Jammu Runners Group participants included Kuljit Kour, the only woman Half Marathoner from KC Public School,  Gurnam Singh, Harinder Pal Singh, Sandeep Singh, former Ranji Trophy Player, Surinder Choudhary, DySP JKP, Rajesh Sharma, Territory Manager Bharat Petroleum, Sanjay Saini, Ajit Sharma, Rajeshwer Singh,   Bharat Bhushan, Deepak Kohli, Bhupesh Gupta, Golfer and Businessman, Sumeet Singh, Dilawer and Sunil Dogra.
Rajesh Padha, the group leader, who got 4th position and clocked the best timing of 1.48 hours, is the man behind the entire group as the driving force, guiding and goading the group members to always do better.
He has completed his 32nd Marathon in the age category of 55 to 65 years.
The timings of other runners were- Sunil Dogra (1.56), Sumeet Singh (1.57.28), Dilawer (1.57.50), Surinder Choudhary (2.02), Bhupesh Gupta (2.05), Bharat Bhushan (2.10), Sandeep Singh (2.14), Gurnam Singh (2.17), Harinder Pal Singh (2.21), Deepak Kohli (2.25), Sanjay Saini (2.36), Ajit Sharma (2.40), Kuljeet Kour (2.41), Rajesh Sharma (2.47) and Rajeshwer (3.11).
The 7 kilometers event was made a super show as most senior persons like 76-year S. Jaswant Singh completed. The others who completed the race included Gurmeet Kour, Shilpee Baloria,  Nivedita Sharma, Sikinder Lal, Aryaveer Singh, Smirdh Sharma and S. Prabhbir Singh.
