Jammu lifts women’s trophy, JK Handball wins men’s C’ship

BARAMULLA, Oct 31: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari today appreciated the role of the Youth Services and the Sports Department in organising frequent sports events across the State.
The Minister was speaking during the conclusion function of the State Handball Championship that was held at Showkat Ali Stadium, here.
District Development Commissioner, Yasha Mudgal, Secretary Sports Council J&K, district and sectoral officers were also present during the function.
Jammu emerged as the successful team in women’s events beating Baramulla in the finals, while JK Police emerged as the winners in men’s events beating Jammu in the finals.
A total of 15 teams comprising of 12 men’s teams and 3 women’s teams from different districts participated in the championship which was organised by the J&K Handball Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council. It was a three day event, held from 29th October to 31st October.
Later, the Minister also distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up of the Handball championship.
While appreciating the courage and stamina of the players, the Minister made a mention of the fact that sports bring flexibility and strength in youth and is pivotal for their mental and physical growth. “Sports not only bring fitness among the youth, but it serves as a platform for exposure of the youth at the national and international levels”, the Minister added.
