Jammu District Rural Cricket Tournament gets underway

JAMMU, Mar 4: Ace cricket organizer, Vijay Sabarwal and former skipper of J&K Ranji Trophy team, Sanjay Sharma inaugurated ‘Salute & Tribute to Sunjawan Martyrs’ Jammu District Rural Cricket Tournament in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at Parade Ground, here today.
Jammu District Cricket Alliance (JDCA), a wing of Parade Sports Association, in its maiden venture organized this Open Cricket Tournament of the Jammu Rural Cricket Clubs to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who were recently martyred in Sunjawan, Jammu Army camp attack.
The tournament aims at hunting the cricket talent in the rural youth of Jammu district. Talented players from this tournament will be selected for coaching in Parade Ground, Jammu by the renowned cricketers of J&K who are the active members of Parade Sports Association, Jammu.
Harsh Nayyar and Kapil Dev Mahajan are the organizing secretaries of this tournament. All the members of Parade Sports Association, the members of Laxmi Cricket Club and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
Earlier, in the inaugural match, winning toss and batting first, Rising Warriors of Udhaywala chose to bat first and made 144 runs in 25 overs. Sonu Zutshi was the top scorer with 27 runs, while Parvinder Singh, Vishal, K P Singh and Vikrant 20, 19, 18 and 14 runs to the total respectively.
For Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor, Vinod took 4 important wickets, while Arush Chander took 2 wickets. Sham, Happy, Narinder and Suresh claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Singh Cricket Club chased the target in 14.2 overs by losing 7 wickets, thus won the match by 3 wickets. Sumit was the top scorer with 56 runs, while Manik Sharma made 32 runs. Happy (13) and Govil Sharma (12) were the other contributors.
From Rising Warriors, Rajinder Sharma was the most successful bowler who took 3 wickets, while Ashish bagged 2 wickets. Vishal  and Shish shared one wicket each.
The match was officiated by Ashok Gupta and Rajesh Jaitly as umpires.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Krishna Cricket Club Akhnoor will take on Lions Cricket Club, Bohri.
